Background

After completing my BA Degree in Economics and a diploma in Business, I worked in the mining industry in various financial positions. I worked at mines in eastern Canada starting as a Paymaster, working my way up to Mine Controller. I was always interested in financial planning and an opportunity to work with two experienced advisors prompted a career change in 1999. I achieved my Certified Financial Planning designation in 2002.

Community Involvement

I am a family man, being married for 35 years with three children and three grandchildren. Utilizing my accounting background, I served as treasurer for local minor hockey and figure skating clubs. I also managed and coached several minor hockey teams. Upon moving to Ottawa, I explored my Irish roots in the early days of Bytown. This prompted me to serve as treasurer of our local Irish Society.

Investment Philosophy

I use my background in accounting to complement my financial planning training. I work in the best interests of my clients by conducting periodic reviews to keep plans current. I also prepare tax returns and consider this to be an important part of the financial picture in that it provides insight into tax savings and investment strategies. I am licensed for both mutual funds and in insurance and use both investment types to suit individual needs. Clients' comfort levels are important and I work with clients to manage their risk to match these levels.
