Sharon Boothroyd is a professional financial planner with Independent Planning Group Inc., with over a dozen years experience in the field. Licensed in both Ontario and Quebec, Sharon provides her clients with solutions for investments, retirement, children's education, and estate issues. As a Certified Financial Planner, Sharon incorporates long term planning into practical pathways for her clients.

Her past business background includes a family retail business, and the successful operation of a Second Cup franchise in Ottawa. She served on the marketing board for The Second Cup, representing the Ottawa area stores for three years. As well, she played an active role on the marketing board of the shopping center where the business was located.

For more than twenty years, Sharon has been involved with the Women's Business Network of Ottawa, where she is a Past President. As Membership Director, Sharon has brought many women into the Network. She has been involved with the committee that produces the Businesswomen of the Year Awards Gala, held each spring. This has enhanced her exposure to business issues in numerous ways.

Sharon is a member of the Financial Planning Standards Council of Canada and of Advocis. The FPSC develops, promotes and enforces professional standards for financial planners. They provide the CFP certification programs and award the designation. Advocis is the Financial Advisors Association of Canada, providing a platform of knowledge, advocacy, community and protection enhancing the professionalism of financial advisors and planners in the best interests of the consumer. Sharon closely follows the six-step planning process as outlined by both groups. She attends conferences and professional upgrading sessions to stay current in her field.

Using investment vehicles as well as insurance tools, Sharon finds solutions for asset development as well as protection. Sharon enjoys working closely with her clients to set a path to assist them in reaching their financial goals, with good risk management as well as investment growth. Her practice is broadly based, including single men and women, families, and business owners. She pays close attention to intergenerational issues. Her financial plans are tailored to meet the specific concerns of each client, and alterations are made as client's situations change. The recommendations will include a variety of financial tools, including Critical Illness insurance and Long Term Care coverage, implementing them in a progressive manner.

Sharon lives in Manotick with her husband, Allan. They have two children, and four grandchildren. They have been active in their community and church for nearly 30 years. Both enjoy gardening, swimming, and travel.
